The Yoga Center: A Revitalizing Space for Wellness

Unorthodox Design in Kuwait City's Busiest District

Located in the basement floor of Jassim Tower in Qibla, the busiest district in Kuwait City, The Yoga Center stands out as an unorthodox project. The designers, Rashed Alfoudari and Dawood Albader, saw the potential to transform this space into a sanctuary for women seeking wellness and tranquility.

The design of The Yoga Center draws inspiration from the practice of Bikram yoga and the surrounding environment. Earthy colors and sandy tones were carefully selected to reflect this approach. Turkish marble flooring, brown mirrors, limestone, and dark textured wood walls create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Privacy for women was a key consideration in the design of The Yoga Center. The space is divided into two zones: a public zone and a private zone. The public zone features a retail shop for yoga accessories, while the private zone is indicated by a curved wall that creates a welcoming yet private space for yoga practice.

The layout of The Yoga Center was tailored to the client's requirements. The reception area seamlessly connects with the lockers and office area, ensuring a smooth flow for members. The locker area is strategically aligned with the leg wash area, signaling the shoe-free zone. A corridor and reading room lead to the three yoga rooms, providing a tranquil and serene environment for practice.

Despite the challenges of working with an unorthodox location, the designers successfully created an organic circulation flow that meets the requirements of the yoga center, including the shoe-free zone. The result is a space that not only promotes physical well-being but also provides a sense of peace and serenity.

The Yoga Center was completed in 2013 and has since been recognized for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2014 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award celebrates the creativity, innovation, and technical excellence demonstrated by The Yoga Center's design.
